Snoring

Do either you or your partner snore? Did you know that snoring can not only prevent you from having a good night’s sleep, but can also prevent you and your partner from feeling rested. Snoring may also be a sign that you suffer from sleep apnoea.

Sleep Apnoea

Sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder that affects people of all ages and can have a signfiicant impact on your health and lifestyle. With this condition the upper airway repeatedly collapses whilst sleeping, resulting in periods where breathing stops completely. It has also been noted to contribute to increased risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease eg. stroke, as well as pulmonary (lung) disease.

Common signs of sleep apnoea may include:

  • Snoring
  • Interrupted sleep eg. choking/gasping for air when sleeping
  • Excessive tiredness during the day
  • Insomnia (inability to sleep)
  • Dark rings around the eyes
  • Extreme headaches in the early morning
  • Poor concentration/memory
  • Stomach reflux
  • Anxiety/depression

In order to help diagnose and confirm whether you suffer from sleep apnoes you may need to undergo a sleep study. If you are diagnosed to suffer from sleep apnoea then depending on the cause and severity then a jaw advancing device may help improve your situation.
